A Daring Adventure for Three!

If you read the title, you've probably guessed-- we're having a baby!  The Daring Duo will be joined by one small female adventurer in October.  Needless to say, we're very excited.

Endings and Beginnings

This is a post about things ending and new things beginning.

The big one on my mind at the moment is my job. When we first came to Denmark, the plan was to live here for 2 years, then move back to the states. We thought this would a kind of break from real life. But, as John Lennon famously said: "life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." A lot of life has happened to us in these two years! We've come to really like Denmark, so we're happy to be staying for a few more years. So, the first thing that's ending is my job! I have my last day as a postdoc this Thursday, at which point the new job begins (pending the successful completion of a bunch of paperwork . . .). On Friday, I'll have my first day as an assistant professor. Very exciting.

At the same time, E is finishing up her right to free language instruction. This week, she took the "Prøve i Dansk 3", the big national Danish exam. We're keeping our fingers crossed for the results! If she gets a 10 (roughly an "A-") or above on all parts, she's entitled to begin an extra year of advanced language lessons.

It's also the end of the year at E's ballet school, meaning the big end-of-year performance happened yesterday. It was in the big music house in town, and it was fun for me to see everything, and I guess a bit exhausting for E, running around backstage speaking Danish all day. We capped off the evening with some tasty Indian take-away.

Another big beginning is our new apartment. For the first time in Denmark, we're living in a non-subletted apartment. That's kind of great, because we get to make things however we like here. It feels like our home. We've been busily getting things settled here, buying plants, dishes, furniture, tools, and all the things that you don't think about much until you realize that you don't have them. It's a nice apartment - lots of wood, very quite, and nice views over the rooftops of Aarhus.

Even though not everything is new and exciting anymore, there will still be plenty of blog material in the future.
